Professor Mark Jordans
Director — Research and Development, War Child Alliance
Professor Mark Jordans is a child psychologist whose work focuses on developing and researching systems of care — particularly for vulnerable children and in humanitarian settings. His approach is deeply pragmatic, linking research with practice, and conducting studies that are directly relevant to improving how interventions are delivered.
At global NGO War Child Alliance, Mark leads a team of researchers who evaluated interventions aimed at promoting the health and well-being of children in areas of conflict. Among these is ‘Can’t Wait to Learn’. Delivered on tablets, ‘Can’t Wait to Learn’ offers digital personalized learning to children who will otherwise struggle to access quality education. The content is co-created communities suffering conflict and low resources, from Ukraine to Uganda, making sure it’s curriculum-aligned, locally relevant, and engaging.
Mark is also an advisor to several global mental health initiatives, including World Health Organization expert committees. Alongside his work for War Child Alliance, he’s Professor of Child and Adolescent Global Mental Health at the University of Amsterdam, and Professor, Child and Adolescent Mental Health in Humanitarian Settings, at the Center for Global Mental Health, King’s College London.
